Default What are your favourite urban fantasy titles/writers?

I feel like I've read most of the popular ones. Any new great writers to the market? Always loved Kim Harrison, Kelley Armstrong etc.

Edit: Looking more for serious world building and complex plot. Not so much for romance in a supernatural plot. ( But do like yaoi/BL/gay romances of a supernatural plot.)

Think more Keri Arthur, Illona Andrews, Holly Black, Karen Marie Moning, Patricia Briggs etc

A newer one with an excellent trilogy called Grace Bloods that I read last year is Jasmine Silvera. An older one that people never really talk about is Jeri Smith Ready with er WVMP Radio series.

Series you likely know, but for peace of mind, a quick recap:

    - The Others by Anne Bishop
    - Alien Huntress by Gena Showalter
    - Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews
    - Hidden Legacy by Ilona Andrews
    - Blood Heir by Ilona Andrews
    - The Hollows by Kim Harrison
    - Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole
    - The Three by Kristen Ashley
    - Guild Hunter by Nalini Singh
    - Psy Changeling by Nalini Singh
    - Mercy Thompson by Patricia Briggs
    - Alpha & Omega by Patricia Briggs
    - October Daye by Seanan McGuire

Sort of in the same vein (a.k.a well known authors I have a feeling you might have gone through already - but just in case):

    - Playing with Monsters by Amelia Hutchins
    - The Fae Chronicles by Amelia Hutchins
    - Chicagoland Vampires by Chloe Neill
    - Heirs of Chicagoland by Chloe Neill
    - Dark in You by Suzanne Wright
    - The Phoenix Pack by Suzanne Wright
    - The Mercury Pack by Suzanne Wright
    - Devil's Cradle by Suzanne Wright

Recent urban fantasy series I've seriously enjoyed:

    - Crescent City by Sarah J.Maas
    - The Grey Gates by Vanessa Nelson
    - Whispers of the Deep by Emma Hamm
    - Mirror Witch by Phoebe Walker
    - Rix Universe by Lydia Hope

Older urban fantasy series, but how so good!!

    - Downside Ghosts by Stacia Kane (the series that led me to Ilona Andrews, Seanan McGuire and Patricia Briggs)
    - Alex Craft by Kalayna Price
    - Graveyard Queen by Amanda Stevens

Just in case you want to dabble a bit in a different genre, aka dystopia/post apocalyptic:

    - After the Plague by Imogen Keeper
    - Kindled by Claire Kent (incl. Last Light)
    - Zombie Apocalypse by Gwendolyn Harper

Shifter(s) oriented, really good reads !

    - The Moon Blood Saga by Z.W. Taylor [best i've read in a long while actually - very different from what's out there]
    - North Wolf by M.A. Everaux
    - Wildflower by Rachelle Mills

    I mean.... I had to !

    - All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness
    - Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

She deserved to be mentionned. Her series span across wildly different universe:

    - The Drake Chronicles by Lauren Gilley
    - Dartmoor by Lauren Gilley

Not necessarily your vib, but good world building:

    - Myth of the Omega by Zoey Ellis

So these are the "classics" that first came to mind. I hope I listed an author/series you did not know yet, one that you will get to truly enjoy! Fingers crossed

quick update - the second tome of the the Moon Blood Saga by Z.W. Taylor just dropped. It did not disappoint, "the hunt" is a fantastic read. This very well could be my favorite urban fantasy/shifter(s) series after Mercedes Thompson (Patricia Briggs).
Just letting you know, I always feel it's easier to dive into a book knowing there is a sequel available already. It eases off the grieving period

I'd also like to include another series, just recently discovered: The Dark Throne by Jessica Ann Disciacca. I'd classify it as a Fantasy Romance (think Sarah J.Maas - that's the closest parallel I could think of). I just finished 'Awakening the Dark Throne' [#1] and I am unwell. Just a fantastic read - kudos to the angst and the sweet, sweet revenge of the second half of the book.
FYI #2 - Awakening the Dark Flame [Expected publication SEPT 2024 - according to the author's socials]
