Urban fantasy recommendations?

I agree with most all. One I didn't see That I enjoyed was Jocelynn ddrake Dark Days Series. It's categorized as paranormal romance but it is more UF than romance.

Sabina Kane Series is....good. Gritty, but also has a decent sense of "fun" if that makes any sense.

So to be clear - "gun or sword" - type would seem to indicate you don't want books where the lead is a race which is weapon-like unto itself? (ie, vampire, werewolf, etc.)

And yes, I'd prefer a series where the MC is not a super-were or a vampire or at least where the protagonist does not use said power as their main defense/weapon or for sheer personal entertainment - I love the Kelley Armstrong Women of the Underworld books partly because both Elena and Paige try as much as possible to live "normal" lives as well. And although Kate and Curran are not precisely "normal", they do try too. I guess I'm looking for a book where hero/heroine are trying to blend in and are not too flamboyant or too bimbo-like.
Also thank you @angelmoon... I personally already like Jeri Smith-Ready's WVMP Radio and Darynda Jones's Charley David series so far. Have even given Darynda Jones's new YA a shot and found it pretty good. Not too into the Morganville Vampires or, for that matter, either L.J. Smith's Vampire Diaries, the Chicagoland Vampire series by Chloe Neill or the Charlaine Harris Sookie Stackhouse books.

I'm reading Carrie Ann Ryan's Holiday/Cooper's series (I don't really know what this series is called, apologies). It's basically about these five brothers who all have some sort of magic on them. It's pretty fun, and book 4 has just been released.
