    Default Retail or Secondhand Purchasing?

Do you buy your designer items retail at full price (or on sale) or do you mostly buy them secondhand? Any recommendations for stores/websites as to where to buy discounted items? Thrift stores don't typically have designer clothing/bags or maybe they do and they get bought immediately. Thanks

Depends on where you live. In NYC, try sample sales. Or if you live near a major retailer like Last Call Neiman Marcus, you can find deals. Or United Apparel Liquidators if you live in the south. Otherwise, look for consignment stores vs. thrift stores.

I like outlet stores. The really big ones do have designer brands sometimes. But, usually there are manufacturing defects of some kind or the style was really unpopular. Its good to examine each item to see what went wrong and if you don't mind the imperfection.

So before Thredup did it’s site revamp, I bought a lot of second hand clothes off the site and it can be a hit or miss, but I would say it’s 2:1 ratio of good vs disappointment. And I really was able to build a nice wardrobe based off the clothes I found there which wouldn’t typically found in retail stores. But they basically have a no return policy and I don’t want take anymore risks so I don’t use it anymore. But in terms of retail stores, Macy’s Backstage has great finds that are deeply discounted and I also found great quality clothes there as well. I’ve been to Salvation Army once and so glad they haven’t turned into Goodwill, which is pricing pretty high for thrifted items that you might as well buy new. I was happy to find two all 100% cotton pieces there for less than $10!

I’m not into labels or brands as much as comfort and looks good enough on my body.
