why are author names so long?

I'v tried Caroline Story, Above Story, Caroline Above .. and I only get 1 hit showing a book I requested and I know I have 2.

then there's

Evangeline Anderson
Jessica Coulter Smith
Jessie Rose Case

I know there's more, these are just a few off the top of my head

I just hate that I have to play with names to find THE names I'm looking for and I just know I am probably not seeing it all....
