That book you remember the plot of but not the name...

i am looking for a m/m romance, it was a sci-fi one and most or all of it took place on a ship. the two guys went through flight/captain/star trekish school together and were always competing against each other to be the best. kind of adversarial but not hateful, and of course hidden feelings etc. this was all back story though, present day the one guy is made captain of a spaceship working with this guy he always was trying to best and they fall in love and all that good stuff. i think there may have been some sort of psychic connection to the ship for the one guy? there was drama and i think some sort of an attack on the ship i think the other ship-mates ended up being put in stasis or something, or on life support systems? and it was just the two guys awake on the ship... the two guys work together and do save the day and i almost think one of them ended up with his consciousness merged to the ship? maybe? i don't really remember the drama terribly clearly.

any help with this one would be much appreciated.

This sounds a little bit like Broken Boundaries by Evangeline Anderson, in which a young, cocky spaceship pilot cadet is teamed up in the flight academy with an older very scary pilot. The relationship between them is not easy, and to make matters worse, they need to share a physical and emotional bond in order to connect with the spaceship's computer system, which is the only way to have perfect control of it. There are several differences with the story you described: there is nobody else on board, this is a fighter ship, not a cruiser, there are no other crew members, there is no back story between the two heroes before the Academy, they just have different backgrounds and very strong personalities and they need to adjust to one another. But since you don't seem very sure about what you remember of the story, I thought you might be mixing books up. Anyway, if it's not this book, I still recommend it, it's very funny and very sexy.
